Growing up on the west coast of Ireland we were occasionally treated to an obscure dessert called carrageen. It was a form of pudding made from sea moss and apparently had the elusive properties of being both healthy and tasty. Long forgotten to the mists of time, I was presently surprised when shhine started providing carrageen in capsule form. Obviously not a tasty treat but they have managed to achieve another elusive combination of being sustainable, organic, local and healthy. As they were supporting a business from my home county I was intrigued.
I had never paid too much attention to the importance of Iodine in a vegan diet but after reading more into it I started taking the sshine Irish Sea moss. Possibly some elements of placebo, but I do feel a positive impact. When I ran out of capsules I thought I felt cognitively a bit less sharp that week. Obviously, this is not a scientific conclusion.
Health benefits aside, personally the shhine capsules help me have a positive start to the day. They make me feel like I am looking after my health as well as supporting local businesses with the added boost of a nostalgic flashback to happy childhood memories.
